A former Nigerian ambassador to Malaysia, James Barka, has renounced his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after accusing the Adamawa state governor, Umaru Jibrilla, of lacking integrity.

Barka, who is also a member of the Presidential Committee on Northeast Initiative (PCNI), defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and partly blamed his decision to dump the APC on his neglect by the party, The Punch reports.

“People should have integrity. When you say A, it should be A,” Barka said.

When you say, Chairman let’s meet tomorrow by 11am; it should be so”.

“This is a government I helped to build, spending my resources and time, but today they hardly recognise whether we exist at all."

Barka’s formally joined the PDP on Friday, August 10, when the Adamawa state PDP chairman and other party leaders visited him at his residence in Yola.

“APC has failed Nigerians in a number of ways. We left the PDP in 2014 because of impunity but surprisingly, APC has become worse when it comes to impunity,” Barka said.

Meanwhile, some chieftains of the ruling APC in Edo have distanced themselves from the gale of defections to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

The party chieftains also denied membership of the Kwankwasiyya group, the political association of former Kano state governor, Senator Rabiu Kwakwanso who defected from the APC to the PDP recently.

Speaking to This Day at the weekend, a former APC chairman in Orhionwon local government area of the state, Mathew Ehigie, said there was no time he contemplated leaving the party, saying that those who mentioned his name as one of the defectors did so out of malice.
