Several road accidents have been reported along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. Some were due to bad roads while some were caused by recklessness of the drivers.
It has just been reported that a vehicle transporting about 37 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), were involved in a ghastly car crash on Monday, August 13.
This accident took place at Danco filling station on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway which left about 19 corps members terribly injured. They were on their way to Sango Otta after concuding their three weeks drills at the orientation camp in Sagamu Ogun state.
They traveled in an unmarked coaster bus from Sagamu when the accident took place around 3:16pm. This incidence was confirmed by the Route Commander Florence Okpe. She quoted the sector commander, Clement Oladele, who described the accident a serious one. She added that the accident occurred due to Speed Violation (SPV) and Loss of Control (LOC) of the driver.
Okpe added that the victims comprising nine males and 10 females were evacuated to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC)’s accident and emergency clinic while four of them who sustained serious injuries were referred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu.
The Ogun state police command also advised corps members to always caution their drivers especially during this raining season and where such drivers refused to heed caution, they should call FRSC toll free number 122 for necessary disciplinary action against such erring drivers.
Thank God for life!
