Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is facing a major selection headache after star midfielder Cesc Fabregas, is yet to fully recover from a knee injury ahead of his side's crunch clash against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, August 18.
According to reports, the 31-year old emerged as a major doubt when he missed the Blues' light training on Monday, August 13 and is not expected to recover in time to face his former club.
The ex-Arsenal captain missed Chelsea's 3-0 victory over Huddersfield Town in their Premier League opener last weekend.
However, Sarri has other top choices in the central midfield including Mateo Kovacic who arrived Stamford Bridge or loan from Los Blancos.
During the Huddersfield encounter, Sarri opted for a three-man midfield of Jorginho, N’Golo Kante and Ross Barkley.
However, Kovacic is yet to taste action for the Blues as he could mark his debut against the Gunners in the London derby.
Interestingly, new Arsenal boss Unai Emery will be searching for his first Premier League win or point during this weekend's hostilities after suffering a defeat against reigning champions, Manchester City at the Emirates.
Already, the former PSG boss has his own injury issues after left-back Ainsley Maitland-Niles was forced out in the first-half of the City defeat. Sead Kolasinac is also sidelined but Nacho Monreal has resumed training after o a knee problem.
