Over 100 newspapers to publish editorials against Donald Trump's attacks on media

- Over 100 newspapers in the United States will be publishing editorials against President Donald Trump's attack on the press

- The editorials will be published and arrive on newsstand on Thursday, August 16

- Trump has consistently attacked the press since his emergence as the 45th president of US

United States President Donald Trump has drawn the ire of news media as more than 100 newspapers in the US will be publishing editorials rejecting his repeated attacks on the press in recent times.

Independent UK reports that the move is part of a coordinated effort by the Boston Globe's editorial board to denounce the president's claim that the media "is the enemy of the American people".

NAIJ.com gathers that each one of these 100 newspapers will publish its own unique editorial refuting such criticisms, to arrive on newsstands on Thursday, August 16.

The Boston Globe, which called on other newspapers to join in the campaign, said: "We propose to publish an editorial on August 16 on the dangers of the administration's assault on the press and ask others to commit to publishing their own editorials on the same date."

The campaign was joined by the American Society of News Editors, the Press Association, the New England Newspaper among others.

Deputy editorial page editor of the Boston Globe, Majorie Pritchard, said: "We have more than 100 publications signed up, and I expect that number to grow in the coming days. We have some big newspapers, but the majority are from smaller markets, all enthusiastic about standing up to Trump's assault on journalism.

"The impact of Trump's assault on journalism looks different in Boise than it does in Boston. Our words will differ. But at least we can agree that such attacks are alarming."

Topping the list was the New York Times whose columnist had been singled out by Trump for claiming that the US economy would fail under the 45th president; a claim which has so far not turned out to be true.
