Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s presidential aspirant, on Monday, August 13, visited the former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, in Minna, Niger state.
This was contained in a statement signed by Yusuf Abubakar, director, media and publicity, Bafarawa Campaign Oragnisation (BCO) on Tuesday, August 14, in Abuja.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that he said Bafarawa’s trip was in continuation of political consultations on his presidential aspiration in 2019.
Abubakar said that Babangida and the former Sokoto state governor met behind closed doors at the host’s hilltop residence.
He maintained that Bafarawa’s discussion with Babangida was fruitful.
The media aide said that Bafarawa was accompanied on the visit by the director general of BCO, Senator Paul Wampana, Becky Igwe, Alhaji Sani Kabiru, Amanze Obi and Iliya Stephen, among others.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that Former governor of Sokoto state, Attahiru Bafarawa, disowned the presidential posters indicating that he is seeking the presidential ticket of the PDP ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The former governor revealed that he has not yet decided to run saying he is still consulting with his family, friends and political associates on his political ambition.
He also stated categorically that he has not authorised anybody to produce any campaign materials on his behalf in that regard.
Bafarawa in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, November 24, said: “It has come to my attention that some people whose desires is for me to contest the presidential primaries of our great party, the PDP have printed posters and produced other campaign materials with my name and photographs. I am told that these materials have been distributed in some Nigerian cities including Abuja.''
