- Jurgen Klopp has sanctioned the immediate sale of Ragnar Klavan
- The 33-year-old defender is deemed surplus to requirement at Anfield
- The Estonian joined Liverpool for £4m ($5m) from Augsburg in 2016
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reportedly approved the immediate sale of Ragnar Klavan in the final months of his present deal at Anfield contract and eager to play regular first-team football.
According to a Goal.com report, Liverpool will sell the defender to Cagliari in a £2 million ($2.5m) deal.
The Estonia international will travel to Italy on Friday to complete a medical and finalise personal terms as he ends his two-year stint at Anfield.
Klavan would be 33 in October and the German boss wants to be fair to the player who has been an exemplary professional during his spell at the Merseyside.
The report further noted that with Cameroon’s Joel Matip regaining fitness again after suffering a thigh problem, and Dejan Lovren expected return at the end of the August, Klopp believes his options at centre-back are sufficient.
This comes at a time when Nathaniel Clyne is returning from injury and Joe Gomez already fit.
Gomez was in the starting lineup for Liverpool against West Ham last weekend, and is seen as a centre-half, long term. All these factors were put into consideration before allowing Klavan to leave.
The Estonian moved to Anfield for £4m ($5m) from Augsburg in 2016 and went on to win 53 caps, netting twice.
Interestingly, Klavan’s exit is expected to lead the way for a number of departures in the next 14 days, with Simon Mignolet, Lazar Markovic, Pedro Chirivella, Marko Grujic and Divock Origi all heading for the exit doors, either on loan or permanently basis.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously had reported that Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah has reportedly been handed over to the police after being filmed while driving.
The Egypt international started the new Premier League campaign on a bright note after leading the Reds to a 4-0 win over West Ham United at Anfield on Sunday.
However, the video was said to have been taken shortly after the game as the former Chelsea attacker was sighted scrolling through his phone as he sits in traffic in the driver's seat according to Liverpool Echo.
