Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has been fined for not returning to the club’s tour of the US after the birth of his baby son.
According to a UK Daily Mail report Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho revealed the development while stressing that the Frenchman left the team base in LA last month against his wishes and flew to Paris to be with his partner Melanie Da Cruz.
The report further claimed that the former Monaco ace has been fined £180,000, the equivalent of two weeks' salaries.
The ex-Chelsea and Real Madrid manager revealed Martial's punishment when replying comments from Paul Pogba that he would be fined if he discussed his situation at Old Trafford.
“I don't care,” said Mourinho. “You have to ask Paul. I'm here for two years and a couple of months, and the only player that was fined was Anthony Martial. So it's not easy to be fined here.”
The Red Devils manager had reached Martial on phone to return to LA, saying: “He has the baby and after the baby is born – beautiful baby, full of health, thank God – he should be here and he is not here.”
However, after made it clear to friends that he had no intention of coming back, the French forward stressed that family comes first and hinted there had been problems with the birth.
“Thank you all for your posts. My little Swan is fine, for the mom it was harder but thanks to God she's better now. Sorry but my family will always come first,” Martial tweeted.
Mourinho was eager to offload Martial in this transfer window, and the 22-year-old is ready to leave, but it appears he will remain at Old Trafford until January window.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously had reported that Real Madrid have reportedly jumped in the chase to sign unsettled Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba this summer.
The midfielder, who led France to the 2018 FIFA World Cup triumph in Russia has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona but the move wasn't sanctioned by the Old Trafford's chiefs.
However, with Los Blancos disappointing defeat to Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup in Estonia on Wednesday, the Red Devils have to fight to keep their star man.
