Gani Adams, Ayo Adebanjo, others call for vigilance in southwest

- Southwest people have been urged to be vigilant against external forces

- Some eminent Yoruba leaders made this call recently in Lagos

- They also alleged that a minimum of 500 migrants comes into Lagos state everyday

Prominent Yoruba leaders have called for vigilance as a way the people of southwest can protect their land from external forces.

The leaders disclosed this at a roundtable chaired by the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, Aare Gani Adams with the theme: Protecting Yoruba Land: Migrant Incursion and Threat to Peace and Security of Lagos state.

In a statement signed by leaders in attendance and made available to NAIJ.com, the Yoruba leaders said the situation of the southwest people was where it was because facts and counsel of history had been ignored.

They said migrants are trooping in to Lagos and southwestern states without security checks.

“From the empirical findings conducted by the Directorate of Organization, Research and Publicity of Yoruba Koya, we found out that a minimum of 500 migrants comes into Lagos state everyday," their statement read in part.

Eminent personalities present at the event are Afenifere leader and elders statesmen, Pa Ayo Adebanjo who was represented by Professor, Kolawole Ogundowole, Aare Gani Adams, represented by the national publicity secretary of OPC, Barrister Yinka Ogunmodimu.

Others are second republic senator and emeritus Professor of History, Professor Banji Akintoye, chief Imam of Yoruba land, Sheik Abudulahhi Aduramigba among others.

NAIJ.com had reported that in reaction to the rampant killings and high-profile violence all over Nigeria by herdsmen, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams said that for a long time the silence of his people was taken or misunderstood as foolishness and that this will not be the case anymore.

Giving his voice against the rampant killings and violence throughout the nation, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, on Tuesday, July 3, said he was ready to do everything to protect the Yoruba people as his office demands.
