- Manchester United are planning to offer De Gea new four year deal
- His current contract expires in the summer of 2019
- He joined the Red Devils in 2011 from Spanish League side Atletico Madrid
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is confident Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea will commit his future to the club in the coming days.
The 27-year-old joined the Red Devils from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and has been their number one since then.
His current contract runs out in the summer of 2019 after moving to Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid in 201.
Daily Star report that the Spaniard is set sign a new four year deal after his dream move to Real Madrid fell through.
The current Champions League holders decided to sign former Chelsea shot stopper Thibaut Courtois after failing to land their initial target.
Both De Gea and Courtois have been on Real's radar for the past few years - such that the Spanish number one almost joined Los Blancos but for a glitch in paper work in 2014.
Following that failed move, De Gea signed a four-year extension and the Red Devils will trigger a 12-month extension in the former Atletico Madrid star's contract to keep him at the club until 2020.
But United fans will breathe a sigh of relief after Mourinho confirmed that a new contract will be signed by the 27-year-old soon.
"He likes it here, we love him," the Special One said.
"We want him to stay, he wants to stay, so when a player is not on the market, the value is zero.
"He (De Gea) is a Manchester United player and he will as soon as possible sign a new contract.
"The old story of ‘I paid that for a striker, I don’t pay that for a keeper’ is old-fashioned in this moment.
"People understand that and the market too, and I’m happy for them. I’m happy for the keepers.
"Would I swap De Gea for any keeper in the world? No! That’s the best question and the easiest answer. No."
NAIJ.com previously reported that Manchester shot-stopper David De Gea, has hinted that he could stay at Manchester United beyond this summer.
He was crowned United’s Player of the Year this week following a stunning season and he has been incessantly linked with a mega move to Real Madrid.
The 27-year-old almost completed a move to Los Blancos in 2015 and the La Liga giants are keen to bring in a new No.1 ahead of next season.
