- Roberto Firmino has issued a strong warning to Manchester City
- The Brazilian striker insists Liverpool can topple City to the Premier League silverware
- The Reds are yet to land the English topflight title since 1990
Brazilian forward Robert Firmino has issued a warning to Premier League defending champions Manchester City to beware as the Liverpool are gunning for the title.
According to a UK Sun report citing sources at Daily Mirror the 26-year-old Liverpool forward believes the Reds are capable of ending that Premier League drought this season.
Liverpool coughed out about £177m for quality additions in the summer to strengthen the Jurgen Klopp-tutored side and smashed West Ham in their opening Premier League fixture last week.
The Kops are riding high with their summer investment and hoping the Reds will claim their first silverware since 1990.
“I am optimistic and I believe -Liverpool are capable of fighting for the greatest success this season,” Firmino said.
“I also think we have a better team than last season and that the new players will improve the performance of the team.
“Of course, we know we have to show it on the field and we know that, for our new players, it is not easy to adapt quickly to a new team. But I always think positively,” he noted.
The Selecao ace netted 27 times last campaign as Liverpool reached the Champions League final and finished fourth, added: “We have shown in the last campaign that our dreams can be fulfilled and that we can return to the path of winning titles.
“This year, we must not fail and that is the attitude of the players. Certainly, my dream is to lift the Premier League trophy with Liverpool – and that’s what we are trying to do.”
Liverpool will continue their quest for honours in the English topflight on Monday night when they battle Crystal Palace in London.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously had reported that Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing want away Paris Saint Germain star Adrien Rabiot before the transfer deadline day.
The France international was earlier linked with a move to Barcelona this summer but the move seems to have been abandoned as the midfielder is staying one more season in Paris.
His current contract with the Parisians is due to expire in the summer of 2019 and his refusal to sign a new deal with the club has attracted interests from top European clubs.
