"Having my mum is the best trophy I can have, way better than the World Cup trophy, bon anniversaire maman." Pogba said on his Instagram handle.

According to the Sun, the former Juventus star has always put his family above anything, having paid homage to his mum and late dad Antoine, who died last May at aged 79.

When asked if he was in a relationship with anyone, the 25-year-old said that: "No, my girlfriend's my mum."

Pogba and his older brothers Mathias and Florentin singlehandlely brought up by their mum, Yeo - who separated from Antoine in 1996 - in a council flat in Paris.

A former neighbour told The Daily Mail: "Yeo wanted the very best for all of them from day one, but this was nothing to do with money. She absolutely adored her boys, and didn’t care who knew it.

"Day-to-day life could be a struggle, but she knew all the boys were going places."

Jose Mourinho urged Pogba to replicate his World Cup form for United this season.

Despite scoring two goals in two games, the ex-Juventus midfielder slammed the attitude of himself and his team-mates after last night's 3-2 humbling at Brighton.

The Red Devils captain said: "I put myself first, my attitude wasn’t right. I should have done much better, made less mistakes and controlled the game.

"Brighton had more hunger. Our performance was not good enough.

"It’s twice in a row we’ve lost against Brighton and that shouldn’t happen. Last year we had almost the same attitude and it’s not right.

"I’m disappointed with my own performance and the team performance. The attitude we had was not like we wanted to beat them."

The Portuguese manager warned the Frenchman not to talk about his grievances through the media and said if he wants to quit the club “again” he should ask for a transfer.
