Operation Python Dance III: Deploy Army to farms, construction sites - Ohanaeze tells FG

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has condemned the Nigerian Army's plan to commence the Operation Python Dance III in states in the southeast region of Nigeria.

The Igbo socio-cultural group said the deployment of soldiers to the region is a move to intimidate resident under guise.

Speaking on the proposed Operation Python Dance III in the region, the spokesperson for the Ohanaeze, Chuks Ibegbu, said the troops should be deployed to to farms, road construction sites and engage them for city beautification purposes if there are no more defence jobs for them.

Ibegbu said sending troops to the region would only cause undue panic in the polity.

He said: “Nigeria Army should by now be producing medium range missiles and ammunitions for which Nigeria is spending billlions of naira that should have been used to develop the country. Rather, they produce only salt and light weapons at DICON and spend the rest of their time intimidating innocent Nigerians.

“We need a peoples Army and security agencies and not intimidators. Let the Army go and produce food for its personnel in Army farms and sell the rest to Nigerian citizens," Ibegbu said.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Nigerian Army had announced its plan to begin an annual training programme of "Operation Python Dance III" popularly referred to as Exercise Egwu Eke III in the southeast states.

The exercise which had its two previous phases, I and II, would take place in states' formations and units under the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army.

The general officer commanding of the 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Kabuk, while speaking when he paid a familiarisation visit to the military cantonment, 302 Artillery Regiment (General Support) Onitsha, Anambra state, said the operation is a training exercise for troops.
