- Man City are currently in search of a back up goalkeeper
- Their second choice Claudio Bravo has been ruled out of the season after rupturing his Achilles
- Meanwhile Guardiola's target Cillessen has also been announced injured by Barcelona
Premier League champions Manchester City may have suffered another set back as their target Jasper Cillessen has reportedly picked up an injury in Barcelona training.
The Citizens are in hot search for a back up goalkeeper for Ederson after Claudio Bravo was said to have ruptured his Achilles and will miss at least six months on the sidelines..
However, Pep Guardiola may be forced to look elsewhere now for back-up to first choice Ederson since the Barca keeper will not be available.
He is also said to be interested in Real Madrid shotstopper Keylor Navas, but the Costa Rican wants to stay at the Bernabeu and fight for his place at the club.
A statement on the Barcelona website read: "FC Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen has picked up a sprain to an intercostal muscle on his left side.
"His availability for the upcoming fixtures will depend on his recovery from the injury.
"The Dutch shotstopper suffered the injury in this morning's training session.
"Although he did not feature in the La Liga opener against Alaves, Cillessen, 29, was one of the most frequently used players on the club's US Tour and played 45 minutes against Boca Juniors in the Joan Gamper Trophy game."
According to SunSport, Guardiola was planning to sign the Barca goalkeeper for Man City in order to provide goalkeeping cover.
The only option for the EPL champions is the 20-year-old Daniel Grimshaw after Joe Hard joined Burnley this summer.
City can sign a keeper outside of the transfer window on an emergency loan, or on a free deal.
Cillessen had been earmarked as a viable option to provide experienced back up on the bench ahead of Saturday’s trip to Wolves. Cillesen moved to the Nou Camp from Ajax back in 2016 for £11.1m.
But he has failed to dislodge No1 Marc-Andre ter Stegen in goal and has made just made just 22 appearances for the Spanish giants with two of the games in La Liga.
He was linked with both Arsenal and Liverpool over the summer but both Premier League sides resolved their goalkeeping problems.
NAIJ.com earlier reported that Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo suffered a serious injury in training and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Mirror reports that the Chile international ruptured his achilles tendon and he is expected to be out for close to six months.
Manchester City are now left with only rookie keeper Daniel Grimshaw, 20, as back-up to current number one Ederson having sold both Joe Hart and Angus Gunn this summer.
