- The Union of Spanish footballers have kicked against the plan to play La Liga in the US
- They have threatened to embark on industrial action so as to stop the proposals
- Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos was one of the captains who attended the meeting
Spanish footballers have strongly opposed plans to schedule regular La Liga games in the United States and have warned of a possible strike to protest against the proposals.
The union of Spanish footballers (AFE) president, David Aganzo, called a meeting with captains and vice-captains across the Spanish league to react to last weeks announcement from La Liga.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Aganzo said the captains were surprised and angry that such a vital decision would be made without being consulted and said they were completely against the move.
Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos and Barcelona's Sergio Busquets were part of the players representing the 20 La Liga clubs.
"The captains are surprised and angry that such an important decision was taken without being consulted. The players are unanimously against this, no-one is in favour of it," Aganzo said.
The AFE president however, acknowledged that indeed some clubs were inclined towards the proposed US games while others denounced the plans.
" There are some clubs that are in favour and others that are against it, but I am speaking on behalf of the footballers," he said.
Aganza further assured the union would do everything within its means to legally protest the decision and prevent from being implemented.
"I will state very clearly that we will do everything possible to avoid this," Aganzo said.
La Liga's governing body had earlier announced that it planned to hold La Liga games in partnership with sports entertainment group Relevant.
Earlier, NAIJ.com had reported how Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos attacked Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp over the injury star striker Mohamed Salah sustained in the Champions League final in Kiev.
Jurgen Klopp was livid over the injury Salah sustained and Sergio Ramos has now fired back at 51-year-old manager accusing him of being a bad loser.
