- Pep Guardiola was worried about Loris Karius and Liverpool mates before their first clash
- Karius was in top form for the Reds as they piped City 4-3 in the showdown
- The goalie’s season finally fell apart against Real Madrid in the Champions League final
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was bothered about Liverpool’s goalie Loris Karius and other squad members before one of their most memorable showdown.
According to a UK Daily Star report video footage from Amazon Prime documentary All Or Nothing captured City’s preparation for the thrilling match where Guardiola was praising Karius – months before his Champions League howler against Real Madrid.
Guardiola’s side claimed the Premier League silverware in a record-breaking campaign – reaching 100 points and scoring 105 goals for the first time ever.
The only club in the English topflight that threatened the Citizen’s dominance was Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
The Kop side first showed their qualities during their first showdown in their first fixture at Anfield in January – which the Reds won 4-3.
“Liverpool have a good goalkeeper, a good team,” he told assistant coach Domenec Torrent and Performance analyst Carles Planchart, in the clip.
“Their centre-backs… they have a good team.
“From midfield onwards they are very strong.
“They’re very attack-minded.
“[Adam] Lallana is good, [Mohamed] Salah, [Sadio] Mane, [Roberto] Firmino as well.”
Interestingly, Karius somehow forced his way into the first team last season with some quality displays.
However, his campaign fell below par during the Champions League final showdown against Real Madrid, in which the two school boy errors played a huge role in their 3-1 bashing.
Already, Liverpool have completed a switch for Brazil international Alisson and are set to offload Karius to Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously had reported that Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly planning to make a move for Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
The Citizens have shortage of personnel in the goalkeeping department after learning of Claudio Bravo's terrible injury that will rule him out for the rest of the 2018-19 season.
City boss will be hoping to make the 31-year-old Costa Rican a back-up to Ederson Moraes after Bravo's Achilles injury.
