- The Ajuwale of Ijebuland has warned against turning the Ojude Oba festival ground into a political arena
- The Oba said the council would not tolerate acts by politicians to drag politics to the event in subsequent festivals
- According to him, Ojude Oba festival is about culture and tradition
A traditional ruler in Ijebuland has warned Nigerian politicians and their supporters against turning the Ojude Oba festival into an avenue to play any form of politics.
The Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona, reacting to shouts of APC! APC! (the ruling All Progressives Congress Party) at the venue of the event said such acts would not be tolerated in subsequent ones.
He also warned all broom-wielding group to desist from bringing their political emblems or items to the Ojude Oba festival as he said that those carrying the brooms are not indigenes of Ijebu.
The Oba said: “Those who were waving the brooms are not of Ijebu extraction. I believe they must have been hired.
“Ojude Oba is over 100 years (old); what you did today has never happened before. Many groups are here but what you have done today has never happened. I believe most of you are not members of the APC. We have people from the Peoples Democratic Party, APC, and Social Democratic Party, among others, here.
"Ojude Oba is about culture and tradition. It is non-political. It has been like that since our forefathers started it. It is an abomination for anyone to drag politics into it.
“I want to appeal in the name of God, such an act should not repeat itself here. Those people who hired you, if they are bold enough, they should show their faces," the Oba said.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Senate President Bukola Saraki, alongside fellow senators, Dino Melaye, Ben-Murray Bruce and others were at the venue of the Ojude-Oba. The senators were at the festival amidst wild jubilation from guests.
Saraki arrived at the Oba Sikiru Adetona Golden Jubilee Centre, Ijebu-Ode, venue of the Ojude-Oba, as the special guest of honor for the event.
