Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has revealed that Nigeria will tackle Saudi Arabia in a friendly tie on September 11, 2018.
The Franco-German football tactician disclosed this piece of news at the NFF secretariat in Surulere Lagos before releasing a 22-man squad to face Seychelles in must win AFCON qualifier.
“We have tried helping some of our players. We are considering playing friendly against Saudi Arabia in September,” Rohr said at the event on Friday, August 24, 2018.
Interestingly, both Nigeria and Saudi Arabia represented their respective continents at the summer World Cup in Russia but failed to progress beyond the group stage.
Currently, Nigeria is ranked 49th by football’s governing body, FIFA while is Asians are rated 70th.
Although the venue for the friendly is still unknown, the Eagles will be hoping to use the Saudi friendly, as an opportunity to further rebuild the squad ahead of October AFCON home fixture against Libya’s Mediterranean Knights fixture at home.
Already the football federation have inspected the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna as possible venue for the all-important encounter slated to hold on October 10.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously had reported that Chelsea star Victor Moses is reportedly under intense pressure from Super Eagles Franco-German coach Gernot Rohr and chieftains of Nigeria Football Federation to reverse his international retirement.
According to reports Moses’ surprise decision to quit the Super Eagles last week caught Rohr, caught many of his national teammates and fans unawares.
The 27-year-old, who also represented Nigeria at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and Russia 2018, explained that his decision to dump international football was to afford him time to focus on his club career and his young family.
