One Benson Ordia has been arrested by operatives of the Edo state police command in connection with the attack on the convoy of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The Sun reports that the suspect was arrested at Igueben council area of the state and is being detained at State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID) of the Police Command in Benin-City.
It was reported that members of the Esan Youth Movement attacked the governor and it was later discovered that they were youth members of the All Progressives Congress as they had initially claimed.
The governor had reportedly ordered the police to look into the attack and fish out the perpetrators.
Governor Obaseki was reportedly angry at the action of the youths for coming to a meeting they were not invited.
Anselm Ojezua who is the chairman of the APC in the state said: “Every criminal act will have repercussions. The police will carry out thorough investigation and prosecute accordingly”.
The disrupted meeting was between Governor Obaseki and leaders of the APC in Edo Central senatorial district.
They insisted that the governor address them but they were turned away.
In reaction, they pelted the governor’s convoy with sachet water.
