Liberia's President George Weah has lavishly praised his former boss Arsène Wenger and gave him with the West African state's highest honour - the Knight Grand Commander of the Humane Order of African Redemption.

“You proved yourself as a teacher when you revolutionised forever the approach of scouting young talents all over the planet, particularly throughout Africa," Mr Weah said of his former coach during the ceremony in Monrovia, Reuters news agency reports.

Thousands of spectators cheered as the former Arsenal manager as he received his medal in a hall at the national stadium.

Claude Le Roy who has also coached several African nations received the award as he was the one who brought Wenger's attention to president Weah's talent.

The Frenchman who coached Liberia's president Weah at Monaco arrived Monrovia on Wednesday night, August 22, ahead of his recognition by the African country.

The 51-year-old was elected as president last year and has decided to honour Wenger and fellow French coach Claude Le Roy on Friday, August 24, after they both played huge roles in his career.
