- Arsenal boss Unai Emery has claimed that Ozil did not play against West Ham because he was ill
- The Gunners went on to beat their London rivals 3-1 which was Unai Emery's first win in the Premier League
Arsenal manager Unai Emery has confirmed that there was never a heated row between him and German football star Mesut Ozil before their win over West Ham United on Saturday.
There were reports prior to the start of the Gunners' win over West Ham that Mesut Ozil argued with Unai Emery and was dropped by the former PSG boss.
But according to the report by UK Sun, Unai Emery explained that he dropped Mesut Ozil for their match against West Ham United because of illness.
"Yeah he was ill with nasal and yesterday we decided with the doctor and with him that he would not play.
"Today he is here and with the team also because he feels better today but he is not here now because he was sick yesterday,'' Emery said.
Earlier, NAIJ.com had reported how Arsenal on Saturday, August 25, recorded their first win in the 2018/19 Premier League season after beating visiting West Ham United 3-1 in a tough match at the Emirates stadium.
After losing their first two games against Manchester City and Chelsea, the Gunners knew that the only way they can seek redemption is for them to beat West Ham United.
Marko Arnautovic scored the first goal for West Ham United in the 25th minute, but Monreal equalized five minutes later. Issa Diop scored an own goal before Welbeck netted the winning goal for the Gunners at the death.
