- The PDP in Osun state claimed that the ruling APC is afraid of losing the 2018 guber election in the state
- The opposition party said the recent gale of defections has created fear in the ranks of the APC
- It warned the ruling party not to consider the option of rigging the poll
- The APC, however, said it remains the opponent to beat in the contest
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is jittery ahead of the September 22 governorship poll in Osun state.
PDP’s deputy national publicity secretary, Diran Odeyemi, said this in a statement. He said the rate at which “true patriots and critical stakeholders in the affairs of the state,” are moving out of the party has created fear in the ranks of the APC,” The Guardian reports.
NAIJ.com gathered that the opposition party advised the ruling party and its “collaborators” to perish the thought of rigging the poll, adding that Osun people have not hidden their resolve to protect their votes, even at the risk of their lives.
It also reportedly warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies not to submit to pressure from the ruling party to rig the poll.
The PDP also congratulated all old PDP members who are returning to the party, after sojourning in the APC.
The statement also implored other people in the fold of the ruling party, with genuine interest of the state at heart, to join efforts aimed at putting a stop to the continued “annexation of Osun to Lagos”.
However, state APC spokesman, Kunle Oyatomi, reportedly said that the ruling party remains the opponent to beat in the contest. Oyatomi dismissed the PDP and ADP as incapable of beating the APC in the upcoming contest.
