- An APC chieftain, Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman, who was a former minister of transport, youths and sports in Sokoto, has said that the state belongs to the ruling party
- Ahead of the 2019 general elections, Suleiman also said that all candidates in the state under the party will be victorious
- He further said that Buhari's massive presidential campaign was responsible for PDP's defect during the 2015 polls
Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman, a member of All Progressives Congress (APC), who was a former minister of transport, youths and sports in Sokoto under former ex-president Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, in an interview with newsmen, has spoken about the fate of the state ahead of the 2019 general polls.
Speaking in the interview, Suleiman said that he is not only certain that the state belongs to APC, he also said that he is sure that President Muhammadu Buhari and other candidates in the party will claim victory during the 2019 general elections, Nigerian Tribune reports.
He said: "Sokoto is an APC state and we are going to return President Muhammadu Buhari and elect all APC candidates in Sokoto come 2019. There is no doubt about this. I have every reason to say that even opposition parties in the state, as well as the incumbent governor, know this."
He said this in agreement with Senator Aliyu Wamakko's assertion that he belongs to APC and President Buhari despite the fact that the incumbent governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, is now with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Concerning what he believes led to the PDP's defeat during the 2015 presidential election, Suleiman pointed out two reasons. He said: "Fundamentally, two major reasons made PDP to lose the 2015 general elections. First, the President Muhammadu Buhari’s political movement; it swept across the country.
"Because of that, PDP could not withstand the movement and they were dislodged. Secondly, within the party itself, it has weakened itself by lots of infractions that were allowed to be. Everybody arrogated laws to himself. The party leadership was not following the party guidelines and rules. There was no rule of law."
Furthermore, he aired his views concerning what he thinks about third force political movement initiated by former president Olusegun Obasanjo ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Suleiman said: "To me, there is no third force movement. It’s just a formation of people without political direction. People who may have aspirations but don’t have any platform to actuality them.
"So, there is no third force that can march Buhari’s movement in 2019. I don’t want to use any derogatory words to describe them."
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal had been described as ‘an object of pity’ by Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko (APC- Sokoto north), due to the former’s decision to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Wamakko, who was also the immediate past governor of Sokoto, made his comment on Thursday, August 2, during a BBC Hausa interview session.
