Breaking: Lagos PDP chairman Salvador, 15,000 members defect to APC

The chairman of the Lagos state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, August 27, announced that he had defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with many other members.

Salvador spoke in Lagos at a press conference where he also gave a figure of 15,000 members of the PDP joining the APC.

He is expected to formally declare on Monday, September 3 at the Agege stadium in Lagos state.

“When you have people or leadership that cannot give you encouragement to carry out your vision, you take it to another place where it will be appreciated.

“I am not happy that I am abandoning what I laboured for, but I have to move on with my supporters because I cannot continue to labour in vain.

“Today, the chairman of PDP Board of Trustees called me on the defection and I told him to allow me consult with my people before feedback.

“The PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, also called me for the first time since my travails.

“He never called since I was put in jail on a cooked up murder charge; he called me today to ask why I want to defect.

“And I told him it is not possible for me to be in the same party with Bode George because he undermined all my efforts to reposition the party.

“He was doing all these things and the national leadership was allowing him, saying he is an elder.

“Bode George also cooked up things to put me in jail in the murder case of late Aborishade.

“Enough is enough. I am leaving the party with my supporters and I am taking them to APC where they would be recognised and appreciated,” he said.

There had been frictions in the opposition in Lagos state even when it formed the government at the centre for 16 years.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that Moshood Salvador, has claimed that he was framed up by the former deputy national chairman of the party, Chief Bode George, in the murder of Adeniyi Aborishade.

Aborishade was a member of the party until he was murdered recently after a meeting in Lagos. But George has reportedly denied the allegation. Daily Sun reports that while he was addressing members of the PDP in the Maryland area of Lagos, Salvador alleged that George and his supporters cooked up the story that he was behind the killing of Aborishade.

“We did the first and second assemblies in Oregun and about 4,000 members were in attendance in each gathering.

“We were doing the assemblies in Oregun because our party secretariat could not accommodate more than 1,000 people. Each assembly costs me about N10 million and I spend about N3 million on the party monthly.

“What I want is the success of the party at the polls. I want to win Lagos for the PDP in my time. “You can imagine that we lost seven out of eight members of the PDP in the state House of Assembly to the All Progressives Congress (APC) last year and yet these people are not moved.

“They want to be the de facto leaders. I will work hard to put our people in public offices to stop us from suffering,” he said.
