- Man United rejected approaches for Anthony Martial from AC Milan and Atletico Madrid
- Portuguese boss Jose Mourinho was plotting to use Martial as part of a deal for other players
- Club's chieftains are backing the Frenchman to remain at Old Trafford
Manchester United rejected offers for French forward Anthony Martial with the latest coming from Atletico Madrid and AC Milan.
According to a UK Sun report, citing sources at RMC Sport, the La Liga and Serie A outfits were keen on landing the 22-year-old Frenchman who did not make the squad for Monday night's 3-0 bashing by Tottenham.
The France international future at Old Trafford has come under scrutiny repeatedly as it looked as if Jose Mourinho would let Martial finally leave after Atletico and Milan revealed their intentions.
The report further revealed that the clubs did not specify a price for Martial who became the most expensive youngster in football when he joined United from Monaco for £36m in 2015.
However, the clubs claim Red Devils eggheads disregarded their interest and approach for the player.
The report noted that Mourinho wanted to offload Martial because he could use the windfall to bring in a central defender.
The Portuguese revealed after the humiliating defeat by Spurs that he was bitter at not bringing in another centre-half during the summer window.
In addition, it was suggested that Mourinho tried endlessly to use Martial as bait in a deal for Spurs defence ace Toby Alderweireld.
Equally, Chelsea midfielder Willian who reportedly admitted he would gladly work with Mourinho again, was part of another proposed deal that failed to see the light of the day.
The report stressed that United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward was keen to keep Martial at the English outfit.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously had reported that Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has emerged as a surprise summer target for Spanish outfit Sevilla.
According to UK Sun report citing Spain’s news channel Marca, Sevilla are keen to table a massive bid for the Frenchman, who is facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford after falling out with club’s Portuguese boss Jose Mourinho.
The La Liga campaigners are equally considering a move for Paris Saint-Germain, Germany star Julian Draxler ahead of Europe’s August 31 summer transfer deadline.
