- Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the PDP in Plateau has urged its supporters to elect its candidate for the governorship seat
- Damishi Sango, the chairman of the state's chapter of the party, warned members not to repeat the same 'mistake' they made in 2015 by installing an APC-led government
- Moreover, a former PDP speaker of the state House of Assembly, Daika, said that he has offered himself as a worthy candidate for the governorship office
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned its supporters in Plateau state not to repeat the move they took in 2015 when most of them left the party's governorship candidate who emerged at the primary to choose the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Vanguard reports.
Damishi Sango, the chairman of the state's chapter of the party, gave the charge when he received George Daika, a governorship aspirant who was at the party's secretariat in Jos to officially inform operatives of his intention to contest the election.
Sango said that all aspirants in the PDP are better than the incumbent governor, Jonah Jang Lalong, thus, whoever emerges as the party’s flag-bearer would be good enough for the office, adding that the party would give fair treatment to all aspirants.
Before now, a former speaker of the state House of Assembly and an ex-member representing Shendam/Qua’an Pan/Mikang federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Daika, said his ambition was borne out of the desire to remove the APC-led government and give quality leadership which he claimed is lacking at both the federal and state levels.
Daika said that he needs only 4 years in which he would run an all-inclusive government where every community will be given the responsibility of protecting its people under the leadership of traditional and community leaders.
However, he said that if he is not given the opportunity, he would support whoever emerges as the PDP's candidate and ensure that the party succeeds.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that the PDP secretariat in Jos, Plateau state, was on Friday, August 9, besieged by members of the Kwankwasiyya group who declared support for the party, and vowed to work for its success in 2019. The group was led by the state coordinator, Tokji John, Daily Trust reports.
NAIJ.com gathers that John stated: “We visited the state party chairman, Hon Damishi Sango, to declare our support to the PDP in Plateau state.
“We were received warmly, and we have assured the party that we will go to the various local governments and wards to start mobilisation because we would give our massive votes to the PDP.”
