- The PDP in Rivers state has raised alarm over an alleged plot to remove Governor Nyesom Wike of the state
- The party's chairman in the state, Felix Obuah, alleged that the APC in the state has perfected plot to remove the governor
- In reaction, the APC says there is no such plot, saying Obuah might have seen it in a trance
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state has been accused by the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Felix Obuah, of plotting to remove Governor Nyesom Wike at all cost.
The Sun reports that Obuah said he noted the inciting and unguarded utterances of the APC leader in the state which constitute a threat to the 2019 elections in Rivers.
NAIJ.com gathers that Obuah made the allegation in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, August 29.
He urged the international community and security agencies to prevent the plot against the governor so as to avert crisis in the state.
According to Obuah, it was the violent activities of APC that led to the suspension of Saturday, August 18, Port Harcourt City constituency 3 by-election, conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to fill a vacant seat at the state House of Assembly.
The APC chairman said: “Ranting through a series of comments on his facebook wall, he insisted that whatever that is needed to be done to remove Governor Nyesom Wike from office would be done, not minding the means and cost.
“This is coming less than 24 hours after the visiting ambassadors of Ireland to Nigeria and his European Union counterpart to Rivers state.
The allegation has, however, been denied by the Rivers state APC spokesman, Chris Finebone, saying that it might have been seen in a trance.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the All Progressives Congress in Rivers state, in a statement by the state chairman, Ojukaye Flag-Amachree, accused the state governor, Nyesom Wike, of inducing APC lawmakers with N2.3 billion to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party.
Flag-Amachree, in a statement on Sunday, July 29, said the alleged N3.2 billion bribe given to the federal lawmakers who defected to the party was a proof of the alleged reckless spending by the state administration.
