A Petroleum tanker carrying petroleum products suspected to be gasoline overturned and exploded in the early hours of of Thursday, August 30, very close to the Eliozu Bridge on G. U. Ake road, Obio-Akpor local government area, in Port Harcourt.
According to NAIJ.com regional reporter Tony Ihunwo, the explosion destroyed properties worth millions of Naira.
"It is not clear yet whether there are casualties at the time of the report as it feared that the explosion. may have caught residents in area their sleep," he said.
Members of Rivers state fire service were the first to arrive the scene at an event and catering center worth over N500 million was burnt down.
The explosion has caused serious traffic gridlock as people rushing to their various places of work. The petroleum tanker explosion, which is the second in less than four months around the same spot burnt down houses, cars, Churches that are located within the immediate vicinity.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that some soldiers serving in Rivers state invaded some communities in Abua, Abua-Odual local government area of the state following the killing of one of their colleagues.
According to report, a soldier, a police officer and a civilian were killed during a failed kidnap attempt on two expatriate workers of an oil company.
Reports said the soldier in a swift response to the killing of their colleagues stormed the communities as early as 4am on Saturday, August 25.
