- Arturo Vidal was snapped up by Barca from Bayern Munich in the summer
- Lionel Messi is pleased with the signing of the 31-year-old Vidal
- Messi believes Vidal’s qualities will help the club's quest for silverwares
Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi has revealed the reason behind the signing of Chilean star Arturo Vidal from Bayern Munich during the summer window.
According to a UK Daily Star report, the Argentine star is upbeat that the 31-year-old Vidal, who joined Barcelona in August for a reported fee of about €18m, will help the Spanish side’s quest for silverware with his qualities.
“Barca fans always want players with good feet,” Messi said. “We defend with the ball. Players like Arturo Vidal are necessary.
“He’s the type of player who does everything well, with the ball and also with the muscle that he has.
“Games are getting more complicated and difficult, physique is important and we are always the smallest,” noted Messi, who is looking forward to see Vidal, who is renowned for his hustle and bustle excel in Barcelona’s midfield, even as he was quick to speak about another summer signing Arthur Melo.
“Those who came are very good,” he said. “Arthur I didn’t know that much about but he seems similar to Xavi.
“He’s very safe and trustworthy. He has the La Masia style.
“Playing short passes, without losing the ball, and he grasped it quickly, the dynamic of the team,” Messi submitted.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously had reported that Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has opened the lid on why he will not leave the club to play for another big team.
The Argentine captain has been with the Catalan giants since he was 13, and now that he is 30, Messi does not see himself leaving the Camp Nou.
The one-club-man stated that everything that revolved around his life all happened in the city of Barcelona, including setting up his family.
