- Morata says it hit hit him hard after after he missed going to the World Cup
- The 25-year-old revealed he thought about quitting Chelsea last summer
- Morata has been recalled to Spain's squad that will face Croatia and England
Spain international Alvaro Morata has revealed he wanted to quit Chelsea after missing out in his country's squad for the Russia 2018 World Cup.
The 25-year-old said not being named into Julen Lopeteguis's squad to Russia hit him hard, calling his first season at Stamford Bridge a "total disaster".
The former Juventus striker revealed he joined Chelsea from Real Madrid last summer to boost his chances of playing in football's biggest showpiece, but he struggled desperately for form.
But Morata who has been named in new boss Luis Enrique's first squad for the upcoming games against Croatia and England said: “[Missing the World Cup] was a difficult time for me, but it doesn’t help anyone to think about the past.
"I’m going to do all I can to go to the next one. It was a difficult moment because I thought I was going to go.
“Clearly I thought about going back to play in Spain, or in Italy. Missing out on the World Cup made me consider it.
"I went [to Chelsea] to get to the World Cup, and I didn’t go.
“The last year wasn’t a happy one, it was a total disaster. I went on the pitch and I didn’t even know where I was.”
However, the Blues striker has revealed he is much happier under new boss Maurizio Sarri and becoming a father.
Morata added: “I have become a dad, I have a new manager, I’ve got back into the team.
"A lot of important things have changed in my life – above all my sons, who are a special motivation.
"I hope everything will go well on the field.
“The style of play has changed at Chelsea and it’s more similar to a Spanish system. More passes, more possession, attacking the spaces."
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had earlier reported that Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata and wife Alice Campello welcomed a set of twin-boys on Sunday, July 29.
According to a UK Sun report, the Blues forward and Italian model have named the new arrivals Alessandro and Leonardo.
