- The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has revealed those eligible to vie for presidency under its platform
- The party said it will not zone its presidential ticket to any region as practiced by other political parties
- It also said it gives Nigerians from any region the constitutional right to test their popularity
Ahead of the 2019 general election, the Social Democratic Party (SDP), on Tuesday, September 3, said that its presidential ticket is open to all eligible Nigerians.
The deputy national chairman of the SDP, Abdul Isiaq, said the party will not zone its presidential ticket to any region as widely practiced in other political parties.
Isiaq said the ticket could go to capable person from any part of the country as the SDP was a party with committed members and driving force.
He said: "The party gives Nigerians the constitutional right to test their popularity. People make mistake thinking that the decision of the party in power will affect every other political party.
“SDP is an open-door party. It is about mobilisation and canvases. Whoever the party chooses as candidate, so shall it be."
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that a former governor of Cross River state, Donald Duke, had earlier picked a presidential ticket for the 2019 election.
Duke who picked the ticket under the platform of the SDP, gave reasons for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The former governor said he dumped the PDP after about 20 years because it had derailed and lost its values. He said the PDP was not the same party he joined back then.
