- The suspect, Simon Bolki, was said to have claimed to be from the intelligence unit of the commission
A fake Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) official has landed in police net in Adamawa after attempting to dupe the majority leader of the state House of Assembly, Hassan Barguma.
Daily Trust reports that the fake official identified as Simon Bolki was arrested in the House when he approached Honourable Barguma.
NAIJ.com gathers that the majority leader stated that the suspect approached him in his office with a fake EFCC identity card, claiming to be from the intelligence unit of the commission.
Barguma said: “When I called the name of my brother working with the EFCC in Abuja and other names of EFCC officials I know, he said he didn’t know them.
“I then called my brother in EFCC and linked them together while placing the phone on speaker. My brother then pronounced him as an impostor and from there he started pleading with me.
“He said he was a university graduate and that it was lack of job that pushed him into the act. I had to intervene to prevent people from lynching him while we awaited the arrival of police who took him to the state CID."
The information officer of the assembly, Mohammed Daji, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect was first sighted in the premises of the Assembly on Monday, September 3, while trying to approach lawmakers. He said: “One of the lawmakers even gave him appointment for Tuesday."
The incident was also confirmed by the acting public relations officer of the police command in Adamawa, DSP Habibu Musa. He said: “We have so far arrested two suspects and investigation is ongoing."
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that a suspected fake lawyer who had been parading himself as Barrister Chris Elisha and had been practicing for the past fifteen years was arrested by the Nigeria police.
The alleged impostor was arrested on February 6, at Ojo magistrate court where he appeared on behalf of an accused person but found it difficult to move a motion for the variation of the bail condition of his client.
