John Terry misses charity game to seal his move to Spartak Moscow

- Former England defender John Terry has pulled out of a charity game scheduled for this weekend

- The game is part of the plans to seal a one-year deal with Russian League giants Spartak Moscow

- He has been out of club since his contract with Aston Villa expired at the end of last season

Chelsea legend John Terry has opted out of a novelty game to seal his move to Russian topflight side Spartak Moscow.

The 37-year-old ran out of contract with his English Football League side Aston Villa at the end of last season.

Though, there are reports that Steve Bruce is planning to sign the former England defender on a short term basis again.

But it is unsure if the former Blues captain wants to return to the Championship side for the 2018-19 season.

Meanwhile, Terry was scheduled to join the likes of Henrik Larsson and Robbie Keane to play in 'A Match for Cancer' at Celtic Park on Saturday, but was forced to pull out of the game.

"I'm sorry I can't be there today to support James Milner and Stiliyan Petrov today at Celtic Park." Terry wrote on Instagram.

Terry became a free agent after leaving Aston Villa at the end of last season, and he is expected to sign a one-year deal with Spartak after completing a medical and fill the void left by Samuel Gigot who is expected to miss the rest of the campaign with injury.

The 37-year-old had hinted at a return to Villa this week but has opted against re-joining Steve Bruce's side.

"I loved my time at Aston Villa," he told the Daily Mail. "I am still devastated that we didn't go up.

"The manager, players and supporters were incredible with me but I hate losing and I feel there is unfinished business there.

"Steve Bruce is a great man and with the backing of the new owners, Steve will hopefully get the club back into the Premier League.

"Don't get me wrong, if I don't play again I am content with what has been an unbelievable career, but I'm still hungry to go and play if everything around it is right. If it's right for me and my family."

Terry will come up against Rangers with his new club after they were drawn together in the Europa League.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that Chelsea legend John Terry could join Portuguese side Sporting CP.

The former England captain is a free agent after leaving Aston Villa at the end of last campaign and has been on vacation with wife Toni and his children in the Algarve this week.

SunSport citing Portuguese newspaper A Bola claims the former England captain held discussions with Madeira Rodrigues - who is vying to become Sporting's new President.
