Efforts by Gombe state governor and presidential hopeful Ibrahim Dankwambo to keep younger brother Buhari Dankwambo in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has failed.

The Guardian reports on Sunday, September 9 that Buhari and about 2000 PDP supporters have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe.

According to the report, Buhari Dankwambo ignored efforts of his brother, the governor, and some political bigwigs to convince him to remain in the PDP.

Reports claimed that Buhari was also given juicy offers to stay on in PDP but he rejected them all.

The Guardian’s report quotes a government source as saying efforts to stop him from defecting was to avoid embarrassment since he was the blood brother of a sitting governor who is aspiring to be the president of Nigeria not because he had political relevance.

The source also accused the governor of not doing enough to keep his brother from defecting.

“Obviously something is wrong; it shows that the governor is not capable of managing situations around him,” the source said.

“We felt we could manage the situation but unfortunately it was above our ability.

“The governor takes the highest proportion of the blame in the whole act.”

On his part, Buhari Dankwambo told newsmen in a phone interview said that he decided to join APC because the PDP was not fair to him.
