Gunmen murder Catholic priest in Imo, flee with vehicle

- A Catholic priest was reportedly gunned down by unknown men

- He was killed along with another young man

- His killer took away his car, left the city in pandemonium

It was all tears and pandemonium in Nkwerre local government area of Imo state on Monday, September 10, after gunmen shot a Catholic priest to death and flew with his car.

The Punch reports that the Catholic priest, Jude Egbuom, who hailed from Umuwala village in Nkwerre, was gunned down along with a young man who was with him when he was attacked.

NAIJ.com gathers that the deceased was a priest at St Patrick’s Catholic Parish, Amucha, in the Njaba area of the state.

According to an eyewitness, the priest was killed after he resisted attempts to let his attackers go away with his car.

He said: "The circumstances surrounding the killing of the priest indicated that it was a case of armed robbery. It could not have been a case of assassination, who did the gentle priest offend? He was from our community, Nkwerre and was doing his missionary work at Njaba, a nearby LGA."

When contacted about the incident, the police spokesperson, Andrew Enwerem, said the incident has been reported and necessary action has been put in places to ensure that the culprits don't escape the lengthy arms of law.

He said: "The incident is confirmed. Rev Fr Jude Egbuom of St Patrick Catholic Parish, Amucha, was murdered last night. Another person whose identity had yet to be known was also killed by the hoodlums. The priest was in his priestly regalia when they shot him dead."

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that some unknown gunmen had killed at least three persons and abducted another in Isheri area of Lagos state.

Lagos state commissioner of police has confirmed the incident that happened in the early hours of Thursday, February 9, at Isheri Estate GRA in Lagos state. Secretary of the estate , Dayo Adekoya, was identified as the person who was kidnapped by the gunmen.
