Chelsea legend John Terry delays Spartak Moscow move

- Blues legend John Terry holds off on his imminent move to Spartak Moscow

- The former England defender has passed medical with the club only to sign a year contract

- He refused to renew his contract with Aston Villa following their failure to progress to the Premier League

Chelsea legend John Terry has put his imminent move to Russian side Spartak Moscow on hold despite passing medicals with the club.

The 37-year-old failed to renew his contract with Championship side Aston Villa following their failure to gain promotion to the Premier League this season.

Terry was due to sign a year deal that will see him earn about £1.8 million with the option of a second year.

He was said to have flown to Rome over the weekend for discussions after pulling out of a charity match organised by James Milner and Stiliyan Petrov on Saturday.

The Russian club however hinted that they have a big announcement on Twitter, saying they were opening the doors for "a very important guest".

However, Terry was said to have returned to the UK on Sunday without putting pen-to-paper, and the Mirror quoting Sport-Express claim that the deal has run into difficulties.

Meanwhile, Spartak will be expecting a prompt answer from the English man as they hope to sign a defender before Friday’s Russian Premier League registration deadline.

They lost their defender Samuel Gigot with a cruciate ligament injury during the goalless draw with Zenit St Petersburg nine days ago.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that Chelsea legend John Terry opted out of a novelty game to seal his move to Russian topflight side Spartak Moscow.

The 37-year-old ran out of contract with his English Football League side Aston Villa at the end of last season.

Though, there are reports that Steve Bruce is planning to sign the former England defender on a short term basis again.

But it is unsure if the former Blues captain wants to return to the Championship side for the 2018-19 season.
