- President Buhari has reportedly stepped in to manage the reported rift between Governor Ambode and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu
- The APC leader is reportedly not supporting Ambode's second term bid
- Governor Ajimobi and Oba Akiolu have reportedly also stepped in too
Following report of a rife between the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bola Tinubu and Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos, President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly stepped in.
The Punch reports that Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo and Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos have also stepped in to save the governor’s impeding loss of the party’s ticket.
Although the governor has picked up the party’s nomination form, two other aspirants, Dr Obafemi Hamzat and Jide Sanwoolu, have also done same.
A source within the party said the president, Oba Akiolu and Governor Ajimobi have stepped in to resolve the alleged rift.
The source said: "There are serious moves to end the crisis. Many people, including the President have waded in. And it is not yet too late for the issue to be resolved. President Buhari, Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state and Oba Rilwan Akiolu are making efforts to ensure that the matter is resolved and Ambode’s second term bid is not terminated."
Another source, however, claimed Ambode and Tinubu had no rift and that the real issue the governor had was with party leaders and supporters whom he allegedly sidelined from his administration.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had earlier reported that following his alleged rejection by the powers that be in Lagos state, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, reportedly took new steps that could see him winning and retaining his position during the 2019 election.
It was reported that Ambode, who recently bought the nomination form of the All Progressives Congress (APC), reached out to the presidency to intervene in the alleged friction between him and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
The report added that the governor was making the move as he battles to neutralise the Mandate Group, a political machine of his godfather.
