- Stakeholders from Kogi PDP have kicked against plan to give an automatic ticket to Senator Dino Melaye
- The PDP leaders warned against any form of imposition of Melaye on them
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders from Lokoja/ Kogi constituency on Thursday, September 13, rejected plans for an automatic ticket for Senator Dino Melaye.
The party after a meeting in Abuja with PDP leaders and delegates from the constituency said the Kogi West PDP already had an arrangement on the Senate seat for the district.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Senator Ogbeha said, members of PDP in the district asked that a level-playing field be allowed for free and fair primaries, rather than an automatic ticket.
Vanguard reports that the PDP leaders warned against any form of imposition of Melaye on them.
They said such imposition would affect the rebuilding process currently ongoing by the party in the state, and consequently affect the chances of the party.
Also speaking, the chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, said the meeting is an ongoing consultation with stakeholders from Kogi West on its plans to give automatic ticket to Senator Melaye.
Secondus said such consultation followed an MoU signed by the PDP and rAPC.
He further urged the stakeholders from the district to have an understanding and yield to the request of the NWC in the spirit of give and take.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that Kogi West Elders Forum (KWEF), a faction of the Kogi state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has rejected Melaye.
The group claimed that Melaye cannot be given automatic ticket to recontest for the Kogi West senatorial seat.
They accused the senator of being too controversial for the party and claimed he has lost his popularity among the masses and so cannot win any election.
