Adejare Bello, ex-Speaker of the Osun House of Assembly, has defected to the APC, barely a week to the September 22 governorship election in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bello, a member of the PDP, had on Monday, September 17 resigned his membership of the party.
In a letter addressed to Mr. Soji Adagunodo, the PDP state chairman, the former speaker said that he resigned his membership because the party has drifted from the ideals of its founding fathers.
He, however, was received into APC by Governor Rauf Aregbesola, at an APC rally in Ede on Friday, September 14.
He also used the occasion to deny some media reports that he received N100 million to defect to APC.
Bello appealed to people of of the state to massively vote for the APC in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections, adding that the party's candidate has better plans for the state.
In his remarks, Gov. Aregbesola commended the former speaker for joining the party, and described his action as a “right step in the right direction.”
The governor appealed to the people of the state to vote for the party for continuity.
Aregbesola assured the people that the party would not disappoint them if voted again into power. (NAN)

Meanwhile, the Alliance for Democracy (AD) on Thursday, September 13, flagged off it's campaign for the forth-coming Osun governorship elections.
The event was held on Thursday, September 13, at the Government Technical College, Oshogbo, the Osun state capital.
Party faithfuls thronged the venue to show solidarity for the AD’s gubernatorial candidate; Architect Olugbenga Akintola and his deputy; Honourable Akeem Bello, who were officially presented to the public.
