Gale of defections have rocked Oyo state as eight members of the state House of Assembly, including the deputy speaker, Abdulwasi Musah, resigned as members of the ruling APC and Accord and the Labour Party to the ADC.
Daily Trust reports that the lawmakers on Tuesday, September 25, officially defected from the two parties to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
NAIJ.com gathered that the letters of the lawmakers’ defection to the ADC was read on the floor of the assembly by the clerk of the House, Paul Bankole, during the plenary.
The defectors are Lukman Balogun, Bolaji Badmus, Azeez Billiaminu, Ganiyu Oseni, Olusegun Olaleye, Samson Oguntade and Muideen Olagunju excluding the deputy speaker.
It was learnt that the defection of the eight lawmakers brought ADC members in the house to 12 while the APC is having 18 members. The PDP has two members left in the house.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that governors in Nigeria elected on the platform of the APC would be meeting in Abuja, the capital of the country, to brainstorm on the best strategy to counter the mass defections that have hit the party.
This revelation is contained in a report which quoted a source as saying: “More than 20 governors would attend and they have a strong agenda which is to ensure that there would be no ripple effects in the states where we all know the bulk of the problem lies.
“And you know what governors can do; they are all out to fight back because the fight is mostly at the state level; Buhari will definitely defeat whoever the PDP would field as candidate.
