- New York-based analysis firm Teneo Intelligence says President Buhari could lose power in 2019
- The firm said this is possible if the opposition unites against him and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)
- Teneo Intelligence used the governorship election in Osun state to buttress its points
President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) could lose 2019 general elections according to a New York-based analysis firm Teneo Intelligence.
Using the Osun state governorship election as a yardstick, the intelligence firm said Buhari could lose his power if the opposition manages to unite, Bloomberg reports.
It added that the close governorship election in Osun bodes badly for the APC as it signals its waning popularity, Teneo said in a note to clients.
“There is already a clear message sent from Osun state: provided the PDP remains united, and the vote is reasonably free and fair, Buhari and his APC are likely to lose the general elections,” said Malte Liewerscheidt, an analyst at Teneo.
Winning the southwest in which Osun state is part of is very important for Buhari and the ruling APC. It was key to the president's victory in 2015.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that the Nigerian government slammed a caveat on the prophecy by the global banking giant HSBC which predicted that the second term of President Muhammadu Buhari would stunt the economy.
Dismissing the bank’s bleak scenario for Nigeria post 2019, government said on the contrary, what killed Nigeria’s economy in the past was the unbridled looting of state resources by leaders, actively supported by HSBC.
Government recalled how the bank soiled its hands with ‘‘millions of US dollars yet-to-be-recovered Abacha loot’’, and continued until a few months ago to shield the stolen funds of one of the leaders of the Nigerian Senate.
