Osun 2018: No corps member made away INEC materials - NYSC dismisses claims

- The NYSC has responded to allegations that a corps member made away with INEC materials during the Osun governorship polls

- Suleman Kazaure, the director-general of NYSC, said that there was no such report was received by the organisation

- Infact, Kazaure commended the corps members who worked as ad hoc staff of INEC for their conduct during the polls

Suleman Kazaure, the director-general of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), on Tuesday, September 25, expressed satisfaction over the conduct of the corps members, who worked as ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the recent governorship polls in Osun, Punch reports.

In response to an allegation that a corps member made away with INEC materials during the election, Kazaure said that no report of such was received by either the state or national headquarters of the NYSC in Abuja.

The DG dismissed the claims at the opening ceremony of the 2018 NYSC annual management conference, held in Akure, Ondo state.

He said: “From what we have gathered from Osun State election, the conduct of the corps members was excellent. They conducted themselves very well and I am pleased with their conduct.

“I also want to say that no corps member absconded with the electoral materials; I don’t think that is true.

"We have our representatives there and I was adequately briefed about everything that happened there, so there was nothing like that. I am just hearing this for the first time. It is not true.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that the presidency, following the INEC's declaration of the Osun governorship election as inconclusive, had said that President Muhammadu Buhari deserves commendation.

In a press statement, the commission's chief returning officer in the state, Joseph Adeola Fuwape, revealed that the election was declared inconclusive because of the slim margin by which the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ademola Adeleke, topped the All Progressives Congress (APC)'s candidate.
