Kebbi governor employs 400 NCE teachers, 121 others to improve education

- Governor of Kebbi state has employed not less than 400 NCE teachers and other staff

- He made this known in his Independence Day's speech in the state's capital

- The governor said he employed the teachers to boost education in the state

Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state on Monday, October 1, said the state government recruited 400 holders of Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) as teachers and 121 supporting staff to improve teaching in the state.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bagudu made this known during Nigeria’s 58th independence anniversary celebration in Birnin Kebbi.

NAIJ.com gathers that he said the administration provided infrastructural support to education sector through the construction of 287 classrooms in the 21 local government areas of the state.

He added that the government paid the N3.6 billion 2014/2015 SUBEB counterpart fund, as well as N2 billion and N4.6 billion for 2016 and 2017, noting that government bought and distributed over 420,000 textbooks in support of primary schools’ development in the state.

On secondary schools, he said over 1,000 science and art teachers were trained during the first quarter of the state’s administrative period.

He said: “We spent N1.6 billion on renovation and construction of new classrooms, and N1.9 billion for the procurement of furniture for teachers and students. We also increased rate of feeding by 100 per cent with an average of N250,000 spent monthly.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that Isa Galadu, a former aide to president of the Nigerian Senate Bukola Saraki, had won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s governorship ticket in Kebbi state.

Senator Galaudu got the opportunity to be the party’s flag bearer for the 2019 general elections after polling a total number of 1,072 votes out of the total 2,226 cast.

His closest rival, Alhaji Umar Tafida scored 720 votes, while Alhaji Buhari Bala and Alhaji Abubakar Gari scored 322 and 28 votes respectively.
