Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is set to beef up his squad during the forthcoming winter transfer window in January.

According to a UK Mirror report citing The Standard, the Blues Italian boss is seeking an official permission from the club's eggheads, to bring in a reliable young centre-back in the next window, after previous attempts to sign Juventus star, Daniele Rugani failed to see the light of the day.

The report further noted that the 59-year-old Sarri, is also looking at the possibility of returning with a fresh bid, but is still eager to keep the likes of David Luiz at west London. a new contract.

Under former manager, Antonio Conte, Luiz was repeatedly linked with a move away from Chelsea as he did not feature in the manager’s plan after a row.

However, since Sarri took over the managerial role at Stamford Bridge, Luiz has turned out decent performances while playing alongside Antonio Rudiger in heart of the Blues defence.

The 31-year-old has just 12 months and is now looking forward to an extension of the deal.

Reacting recently about the club’s prospects under Sarri, the Brazilian revealed he will be excited to pen an extension, at the Premier League club.

"In the first week I spoke with him. I said to him that “I am going to work hard to show you I want to play in your team, with your philosophy,'" he said.

"I had two offers from different clubs but I told Chelsea I wanted to stay," Luiz said.

"Would I have gone if Conte stayed? For sure. But they changed for Sarri and I have tried to convince Sarri I want to stay at Chelsea.

"I am playing now and enjoying it. I didn’t play (for most of) the last six months (under Conte). Sarri is human, he wants us to take pleasure in playing football. He said every day we have to enjoy it."

Currently, Chelsea are two points behind Premier League leaders, Manchester City and Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously had reported that Brazilian football star David Luiz gave a die-hard Chelsea fan Carol Ann Wood a surprise as he attended her birthday celebration party on Saturday, September 29.

This was after Chelsea were forced to a 1-1 draw at home by Liverpool, as the former PSG star decided to attend the ceremony of one of the Blues' supporters.

David Luiz attended the birthday ceremony with girlfriend Bruna Loureiro and Carol Ann Wood could hardly contain her excitement.

She however took to social media with photos to express her excitement over the visit of Chelsea defender David Luiz.
