- APC NWC fault Clement Ebri-led electoral panel for annulling the Lagos primary
- Adams Oshiomhole, the party’s national chairman insists that the will of the Lagos people must be respected
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has upheld the party's governorship primary election held in Lagos state which saw Babajide Sanwo-Olu defeat incumbent governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.
Confusion had trailed Tuesday, October 2 primary election held in the 245 wards spread across the 20 local governments of the state, after it was cancelled by the Clement Ebri-led electoral panel set up by NWC to supervise the poll.
Ebri had said that his committee was unaware of the primary conducted by the State Working Committee (SWC) because it did not follow the committee’s guidelines. He, therefore, cancelled it and ordered a fresh exercise for Wednesday, October 3.
However, the Adams Oshiomhole, the party’s national chairman, overruled the Ebri committee and ordered it to collate the results of the poll and declare it immediately.
The APC national chairman told This Day that the NWC tasked the Ebri committee with merely supervising the poll, adding that a panel of about seven persons cannot manage an election held in 245 wards of 20 local government areas of the state.
“The election has been held, anyone who is aggrieved should complain after the declaration of results," Oshiomhole said.
The national chairman insisted that the will of the people must be respected and directed Ebri to collate and release the results of the poll without fail.
