Editor's note: The president of Oruk Anam People Assembly; Edidiong Philip, writes on the recent alarm raised by certain political actors in the Aka Ibom, suggesting that there is a likely break down of peace in the state due to the activities of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
The hastily scripted excuse for a press statement allegedly written by leadership of All Progressives Congress, APC, and given voice by its factional caucus chairman , Atuekong Don Etiebet, is hypocritical and goes a long way to show how shallow and predictable the party leadership has deteriorated to these past years.
As a matter of fact, it was expected that considering the overwhelming condemnation which followed the recently concluded APC governorship primary, dubbed the most bloody political party primaries in the history of Akwa Ibom state, egg heads of the party would urgently pull a stunt to divert public attention from their abysmal outing.
True to form, the party midwifed those unfounded claims which are at most laughable. Come to think of it, when Atuekong Don Etiebet's stature alleges politically motivated violence against APC members, does he actually believe himself? Can he show proof beyond poorly cited instances which occurred years ago during Governor Godswill Akpabio's reign of terror? Has he forgotten so quickly last Sunday's (September 30th, 2018) mayhem unleashed by the Managing Director of NDDC , Mr. Nsima Ekere, on hapless supporters of his co-aspirants, during the governorship primary? Incidentally, PDP also conducted her governorship primary on the same day without any news of violence let alone bloodbath!
Obviously, APC is now noted for violence and bloodshed as earlier stated on public radio by its foremost chieftain, Senator John James Akpanudoedeghe, that, “Governor Udom Emmanuel is not a killer. Those who used to kill are now in APC!” The black Sunday show down was proof enough!
It does not come as a surprise that the contentious flag bearer of Akwa Ibom APC, Mr. Nsima Ekere, has caused an action movie to be shot in his home out of desperation to be seen as a victim rather than a villain that he is. Nsima can easily direct an orchestration of their routine tactics in order to achieve needed objective. It may not be surprising for him to stage-manage an attempted kidnap of a member of his family! One should pause to ask, how did a would be assassin pin point Nsima's bedroom in the heavily armored bunker of a house that he resides in?
With so many violent and irrational politicians currently infesting the APC, intra-party violence is inevitable. These hordes are so tensed and jittery over the least provocation. The fact is, APC should look inwards to identify and tame its wild members and stop pointing accusing fingers at PDP.
That said, the so-called systematic destruction of billboards of Mr. Nsima Ekere, is Etiebet's attempt to examine the abstract. He however cleverly avoided to mention that destruction of billboards did not start during this period. Even billboards bearing the governor's image, that of other politicians and those announcing government projects have been vandalized along the same road and the police is already investigating the phenomenon, so how does it become an attack on a particular individual or party?

In trying to please his benefactors, Atuekong Don Etiebet, a foremost politician has lost it. His political acumen at the national stage is being exploited for mundane issues. When he should be at the forefront, championing egalitarian causes such as restructuring of Nigeria or hasty clean up of the toxic Niger Delta environment, he has become known for a new kind of job, that is, scribbling and reading petitions at the behest of whoever foots his bills.
In 2006, Don Etiebet, then a former presidential aspirant, stooped so low to struggle for power with “the boy [he] used to accommodate and feed.” Alas, soon after Godswill Obot Akpabio, his 'houseboy' became governor in 2007, the same Etiebet switched role, condescending to carrying Akpabio's portfolio, claiming to be a senior special adviser.
One can still recall the days leading to the 2015 general elections, when Etiebet wrote several high sounding petitions, very similar to the one recently published, where he accused former governor Akpabio of all manners of evil both real and imagined.
