PDP convention: Physically challenged delegate waits for his turn during accreditation

A large turn out of delegates including a physically challenged man from Sokoto state characterised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention holding in Port Harcourt.

The physically challenged delegate was observed waiting patiently for his turn during an accreditation before casting his vote.

NAIJ.com gathered that some of the delegates have also been sleeping in vehicles parked within the open spaces around the venue.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that PDP's National Convention started on Saturday, October 6 and is expected to end tomorrow, Sunday, October 7.

The opposition party's bigwigs and delegates are in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital for the make or mar convention and presidential primary where they will elect the presidential candidate that will be slugging it out with President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

The party said it has put in place strategies to ensure that the presidential primary is transparent.

According to the PDP national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbindiyan, the National Working Committee (NWC) has broadened the participation of the presidential aspirants by giving them opportunity to nominate two people each into the accreditation and electoral committees respectively, sunlike in the past when aspirants were restricted to nominating agents to represent them during delegates elections.

In a related development, delegates, food vendors, traders in various consumables, stickers and caps set up canopies around the Adokiye Amasiemaka Stadium, venue of the 2018 national convention of the PDP.

Some of the delegates have also been sleeping in vehicles parked within the open spaces around the stadium since October 5.

Similarly, posters of the 13 aspirants jostling for the party’s presidential ticket at the convention conspicuously adorned streets leading to the stadium.
