Following the declaration of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday, October 7, there was wild jubilation in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital.
According to Punch, hundreds of youths and women took to the streets with posters of the former vice president, singing and dancing.
NAIJ.com gathers that one of the jubilant youths, Collins Bonzena, said the people had thrown their support behind Atiku because of his position on restructuring, security and job creation.
He said: “Atiku has the experience and the capacity to rule Nigeria. Remember he was the vice president of this country for eight years and his experience in the private sector will make him a good president.
“Atiku is well prepared for the job, he already has a blueprint on how to grow Nigeria, tackle insecurity and restructure the country to give us true federalism which is key to our development and that is what we need at the moment.”
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has already commenced his search for a running mate.
According to investigations, the search may have been limited to the south-east geopolitical zone.
Some states in the zone, however, may have been disqualified from the short list. One of such allegedly disqualified states is Anambra, where a former running mate to Atiku, Peter Obi, hails from.
