The Edo state primary election committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has explained why the results of the National Assembly primary in Akoko-Edo area of Edo state could not be released.
Punch reports that the committee said the results were not released due to the crisis that followed the conduct of the election.
NAIJ.com gathers that the committee said on Sunday, October 7, that violence erupted at the APC primary for the Akoko-Edo federal constituency in the state.
According to report, party members who assembled at the venues of the exercise held across the 10 wards, were harassed and intimidated.
The commissioner of police, Johnson Kokumo, said he was not aware of any violence. He said: “I am not in the picture of any violence. The primary, as conducted by the team (committee) that came in, was free of any form of violence. It was a hitch-free exercise."
The chairman of the state primary election committee, Hajia Farida Suleiman, who briefed newsmen at the APC secretariat in Benin, said the results of the exercise were not ready due to the crisis.
According to her, the results would be released when investigations into the violence are concluded.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that a former member of the House of Representatives, Patrick Obahiagbon, on Thursday, October 4, emerged the All Progressives Congress (APC) Edo South senatorial candidate, at the party’s primaries in Benin.
Ehiozuwa Agbonayima, incumbent House of Representatives member representing Ikpoba-Okha/Egor federal constituency, was returned as candidate.
A serving lawmaker, Henry Okhuarobo, was returned unopposed as the APC candidate to represent Ikpoba-Okha constituency in the state House of Assembly.
