- The Save Lagos Group (SLG) commends the PDP for conducting a free and credible primary election
- The SLG believes that with the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the PDP candidate, Nigerians now have a better alternative
- The group wants Nigerians to prepare the PVCs to vote massively for Atiku Abubakar in 2019
A Lagos-based civil rights organisation, Save Lagos Group (SLG), has declared that the emergence Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate of the main opposition party in Nigeria, is good for democracy.
The SLG said Atiku’s emergence to fly the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was the best option and better alternative for the Nigerian masses in the 2019 presidential election.
The group also maintained that Atiku's victory at the just concluded presidential primary of the PDP had rekindled the hope of the citizens as they choose between Buhari, who has been tested and the former vice president who has promised restructuring.
In a congratulatory message to Atiku, signed by the group's convener, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman, on Tuesday, October 9, the group described the choice of Atiku as presidential candidate of the PDP as a welcome and good development as it is like putting a round peg in a round hole.
The group said that Atiku has the capacity to fix Nigeria and unite the country.
Comrade Sulaiman also described Atiku as a detribalized Nigerian whose government would not follow same path as the current one.
It urged Nigerians to use their power of the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) to vote massively for Atiku in the 2019 election.
The rights group also described Atiku as an experienced administrator and trusted politician who understands the nooks and crannies of the country.
Sulaiman commended the leadership of the PDP and the Okowa-led committee for conducting a free, fair, credible, transparent and acceptable presidential primary that produced Alhaji Atiku.

It said the emergence of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as PDP presidential candidate has changed the political firmament of the country ahead of 2019.
“It is our belief that this will give maximum opportunity to Atiku to restructure Nigeria and restore its lost glory back,” the group said.
NAIJ.com earlier reported that former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election to emerge as its presidential candidate for the 2019 presidential election.
