Senators on the platforms of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Tuesday, October 9, reportedly reached a truce on the planned impeachment of Bukola Saraki, their president.
Daily Independent reports that the truce was reached at a meeting of the senior legislators which lasted for 20 minutes as they returned from a long recess on Tuesday, October 9.
It was learnt that the meeting was used to address issues relating to the Senate.
The report quoted a lawmaker as revealing that issues of threats and counter threats were dropped.
“The members agreed to give peace a chance and avoid allowing the red chamber of the federal legislature to degenerate into an arena of conflict over partisan and personal issues,” he said.
It was also reported that the APC caucus used the opportunity to extract a promise from the Senate president that national interest would continue to take precedence over any other consideration in the activities of the upper legislative chamber.
They also reportedly agreed not to allow external forces and influences to cause disaffection, disturbance, or crisis within the legislature.
NAIJ.com earlier reported how the national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Yekini Nabena, urged senators on the platform of the party, to commence the impeachment of Bukola Saraki, the president of the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
Nabena asked the senators to conclude the unfinished business they embarked on before going on recess by removing Bukola Saraki as Senate president.
According to him, the senators should reject Saraki the same way delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) refused to make him win the presidential primaries of the political organisation recently.
